Theatre Etiquette

As a courtesy to the performers and patrons at Orpheum Theatre or Halloran Centre events, please note the following tips for theatre etiquette:

LATE SEATING

For some shows, especially theatrical productions, latecomers may be seated at an appropriate break in the performance.

Please plan to be in your seat by showtime to minimize seating disruptions after an event has started.

MOBILE DEVICES

Silence your cell phone and other electronic devices. The light and noise from cell phones and electronic devices are a distraction to performers and those seated around and above you. No text messaging, photography, or recording.

Some patrons at Broadway shows may use their mobile phones for accessibility, including closed captioning or audio description through the new GalaPro app. Learn more about this technology and how to recognize it in use. GalaPro's unique technology is designed specifically to adhere to the theatre. Airplane mode is always on so there will be no messages or phone calls, and a black screen with red or gray font that only the individual looking at the screen can read. There are no bright lights to disturb anyone. Please be respectful of patrons around you who may be relying on their mobile device to enjoy a performance.

NOISE

Do not talk or whisper during the performance. You may be distracting or disturbing the patrons around you and the actors on stage.

Be conscientious about the noise you may be making while enjoying concessions or searching through your bag. Please unwrap candy or other concessions before the show or during intermission, and refrain from rattling ice in cups.

CONCERT ETIQUETTE

At most concerts, audience members may stand and are sometimes encouraged to by the artist. All audience members are expected to be respectful of the guests around them. Under no circumstance will patrons be allowed to block the exits or aisles while standing.

ITEMS AT THE THEATRE

In order to ensure the safety of our guests, purses, briefcases, and bags may be inspected upon arrival.

Firearms, knives, and weapons of any kind are prohibited inside the theatre. Other items not allowed inside the theatre include illegal drugs, laser pointers, fireworks, outside food and beverages, SLRs, DSLRs, video cameras, professional cameras, including external flash camera units or interchangeable/detachable lenses, and pets other than service animals.

Larger items that have the potential to block walkways or disturb other patrons will need to be stored at coat check. For your convenience, we recommend refraining from bringing large bags to the theatre.

WORKING WITH OUR STAFF

The Orpheum staff and our dedicated team of volunteer ushers work hard to accommodate modern crowds in our historic theatre. Please be patient as we work to serve you as best as possible.

If you encounter an issue while in our venues, please speak to an usher or the house manager so we can resolve the situation for you as it happens.

Help us keep our venues secure — if you see anything suspicious, please tell an usher or other Orpheum Theatre Group representative.
