Star Council is a service organization that offers any Memphis area High School student the opportunity to “take a role” by providing theatrically based opportunities for both learning and volunteering. Students will meet monthly to learn about volunteer opportunities, participate in teambuilding activities with their peers, and explore how theatre works in service to the community.
Orpheum staff “headliners” will speak to students about the many professional opportunities there are in the theatrical world and how every role is of service to the overall mission of the Orpheum: “to enhance the communities we serve by utilizing the performing arts to entertain, educate and enlighten.” Students will also be required to complete service hours for the Orpheum by volunteering for fun opportunities such as ushering for Broadway Musicals, assisting with Kids Night on Broadway, and providing support for the High School Musical Theatre Awards.
Come be a valuable STAR at the Orpheum, share your love of theatre with peers from across the midsouth, and make a difference in your community at the same time!
To participate in STAR Council students must:
More than two absences throughout the year and less than 3 service opportunities fulfilled will leave the student not within good standing in STAR council, and they will not be eligible to return to STAR Council the next year. Students that fulfill all requirements will be honored as “Super STARS” at the end of the year.
Star Council meetings are held on Sundays from 2:00 pm- 4:00 pm unless otherwise noted.
